Copyright and takedowns

Updated 17 October 2026.

Study sets here are written by the people who use them. Notes you wrote yourself are yours, and making cards from a textbook or a teacher's slides, in your own words with short quotes, is what the app is for. Copying whole pages or chapters word for word, a teacher's exam, or a test bank isn't allowed (see the Terms).

If a set copies your work

The quickest way is Report this set in the set's ··· menu, with “It copies someone else's work”. We take down sets that copy someone else's work.

You can also send a notice under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act to our agent below. It needs:

  1. your physical or electronic signature, or that of someone acting for you;
  2. the work you say was copied;
  3. the set on our site (its link is enough);
  4. how to reach you: address, phone or email;
  5. a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't allowed by you, your agent or the law;
  6. a statement that your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you own the right or may act for its owner.

Our designated agent

If your set was taken down by mistake

Send our agent a counter-notice with your signature, the set, a statement under penalty of perjury that it was removed by mistake or misidentification, your name, address and phone, and your consent to the federal court for your district. We send a copy to whoever sent the notice, and bring the set back in 10 to 14 business days unless they tell us they've gone to court.

Repeat infringers

We close the accounts of people who keep posting others' work: an account with three valid notices against it is closed.

Knowingly misrepresenting that something copies your work, or that it was removed by mistake, can make you liable for damages.
